I’ve been looking for a replacement chair for working at my computer. J’s got a great one (AK Octane), but it doesn’t seem to be available anymore (nor, according to many message boards, is their ‘new model’ that seems never to have come out).
I’d been intrigued by all the exercise ball chairs that many people swear by, but was concerned that 1. it would be too short (my desk is a little high and I don’t currently use a keyboard tray) and 2. I’d get tired of it like I did the kneel-chair I still have in storage.
I already had an exercise ball, so started looking around and came up with this setup. It’s the base of my papasan chair that, though I love it, I don’t use very often and is starting to fall apart. Although it’s somewhat worn, the bottom is a perfect fit for the ball and it comes to nearly the right height. I’ll need to pump the ball up just a little more to make it a tad higher, and/or I’m considering some casters to make it more useful for the office.
So far it’s treating me well and is helping out the pain I’ve had in my hip for the last few days. But if I change my mind, at least I’m not out the $70 (the price that the ball-chairs on Amazon were listed).

After a year & a half (Ken & Les were with us when we bought it), we decided to put up this Ikea shelf in our kitchen. And after a trip back to Ikea to exchange it for one that had all the right pieces (we don’t have much luck with this), we finally did put it up. Sooo wishing we’d done this earlier! By hanging some pots & pans and using the shelf above, we’ve been able to clear cabinet and counter space enough to bring several appliances into the kitchen where they belong (I swear I’ll use the Kitchenaid more if I don’t have to lug it from the back closet out to the kitchen every time!)

Just off to the left is now officially the coffee/tea/snackies station, so there’s even hooks on the shelf up there to hang each of our favorite  mugs (my Pooh one is in the dishwasher).

A nice Easter gift this year: I got to hold a 12-day old.

Chemtrail- Top Advant Garde Act, originally uploaded by katatak.

Chemtrail was nominated in 4 categories for the 15th Annual Asbury Music Awards which were held at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park¹ tonight. Although they didn’t win any of the individual awards, the band as a whole won Top Advant Garde Act! We decided the Advant Garde is where they put all the other bands that don’t really fit into any of the other 10 genres to which they awarded a ‘Top Act’ trophy. Whatever genre they are considered, this is a super-awesome pat on the back for them. The other awards for which they were considered were Top Drummer– Chris Lukens, Top Guitarist–Dan Ridenour, and (of course!) Top Bassist– J.Maggio. sweet.

One of the coolest things about the band’s honor tonight is that there was a ballot that anyone could fill out to vote… but we didn’t know about it. So this somewhat of a popularity contest wasn’t something that we sent out emails to all of our friends to vote for. I even had someone ask me about who did the voting- if there was somewhere online that she could go to give them a vote, but in all my searchings around, I’d not seen any links to this ballot (until now- found on Google). We did find out at some point after the ballots were due in (possibly even between Thursday and tonight), so at that point we couldn’t ask friends to vote. So that just makes it all the more cool that they won.

Congratulations, Guys!!

1. Asbury’s music scene is likely somewhere the size of a lake in the whole ‘big fish-small pond; little-fish big pond(i.e. ocean)’ kind of metaphor, so Chemtrail seems to be growing quickly in this lake. I suppose lakes come in many different sizes, too, so I shall try to quantify this. The announcer at the awards ceremony claims that Asbury is an internationally known music scene and I’d agree with that. Not known, necessarily to the average Joe, but to anyone who’s done his/her homework on the American music scenes (esp. independent music), Asbury is likely known. Even I, who had no real knowledge of music scenes had heard of this place in New Jersey where Bruce Spingsteen got his start: a place called The Stone Pony. That’s where the Music Awards were held.
